Have you ever thought “There has to be more to life than this”, ‘I always thought I’d do so much more’, ‘Why is every one else going ahead in leaps & bounds while I’m just stuck here!’ Ha life become a bit of a Groundhog Day?
Often in life one tends to fall into the trap of getting so tied up in what’s happening at the time, that we forget to focus on the big picture. We tell ourselves ‘I’ll do that when I’ve got the house paid off’’, ‘when I get a better paying job’, ‘when sales pick up’, or ‘when the kids are off my hands’. In other words we ‘settle’ for mediocre and before we know it life has passed us by. And that's pretty sad considering we only get one shot at life.
Take a minute to think about this...
If you were lying on your death bed with all your loved ones around you and reflecting back on your life, could you answer a resounding ‘YES’ to these questions… “Have I done everything I wanted to do in life? Have I lived my life exactly as I wanted too? Have I been who I always thought I’d be? Has my life been extraordinary for me?” Food for thought isn’t it.
The reason some people seem to have it all is that they are CLEAR & FOCUSED on what they want. They are focused on who they need to be to achieve their desires and they are focused on what they need to do in order to get what they want. This may sound like it’s a difficult thing to do, the fact is, it is easier than you think. What you focus on is what you get to the exclusion of everything else.
There is a saying "Where focus goes, energy flows." And everything that happens in our life, everything that happens in the world uses energy of one kind or another. If we want to achieve extraordinary results and fulfilment in any area of our life, whether family, career, business, health, relationships, then it is a must that we need to get laser focused on what it is we really want, and create a crystal clear vision of where we want to go. Having a clear result or outcome and consistently focusing on it immediately changes your behaviour, giving you the momentum you need to take small actions daily that will lead to the greatly desired results.
One of the key elements in this success (or lack of) is that understanding that our focus will dictate our attitude, our behaviour and the state of our destination. There are two choices, we can let our mind take a meander to the dark, scary, sad place, convincing (and sometimes paralysing) us that it's safer to stay exactly where we are. This is the place of fear. On the other hand we can let our mind take us through the open door, where perhaps the path is unknown, but the discoveries through the whole journey will be one of opportunity, gratitude, growth, joy and excitement. Either way, to focus on the positive or the negative, your energy will be right there with you.
There is another quote by George Bernard Shaw that states:
“People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them.”
This is another vital key. I have often found talking with clients, and many people in general for that matter, that they tend to have the attitude that it is someone, or something else that is the cause of their situations. The truth is, that ONLY YOU, hold the power to achieve in life that which you truly want. And the first step is to get clear on what that is and direct your focus, (and therefore your energy), to taking steps to make it happen.
Start with this simple Exercise:
Keep this somewhere visible over the next 12 months. Focus on the results you are committed to each day. You will find you will consistently move toward the result you’re after — and very often accomplishing them faster than you expected.
By working out what you want from life and setting goals, you will work out where you need put your energy into to begin to create the life you deserve.
